Pool
Dear Brookdale Racquet Club Member:
Welcome to the upcoming 2010 Club season. The pool will open this year on May 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. As in prior years, there will be a members’ brunch starting at 10:00 a.m. on opening day.
After last year’s cold, rainy summer and the miserable winter we’ve just endured, it’s great to be preparing to open the pool. Get your flip-flops and suntan lotion ready! This year’s Board of Directors is Chris Frantzen, Randy Liveris, Jim Stoffregen, Heather Lang and myself. Heather is our newest member. She takes over for Christi Grezlik as social chair. Heather has asked me to remind you all that the success of this year’s social events will be directly proportional to your volunteer efforts. So be sure to answer “yes” when Heather asks you for help.
Kathy Thrush returns for her fourth year as Club manager. She has trained a top notch staff of experienced guards, many of whom will also be returning. Janet LaRocque returns as Club accountant. She will be assisting Jim Stoffregen and me with membership duties. Phil Galow is our tennis pro.
The operating budget for the 2010 season will be $253,285. Dues have not increased this year.
Your dues are payable by May 1, 2010. If the dues are not paid by May 1, 2010, a $35.00 late fee will be assessed. There are NO exceptions to this rule unless you contact me prior to May 1, 2010. In a hardship case, any member can petition the Board of Directors for a voluntary suspension of membership. This must be done by April 15, 2010 in order to be considered for the 2010 season. Please contact me for details.
Please be sure to fill out the annual registration form. Forward your check and registration to the address on the registration form and make your check payable to the Brookdale Racquet Club. Please do not drop your check off at my house if you can avoid it. I will have a box on my front porch for procrastinators on the afternoon and evening of May 1, but it is much easier for everyone if you mail it to the Club P.O. Box.
Information will be available on the office answering machine on days when weather conditions could cause the cancellation of activities at the pool. Please monitor notices posted on the Club bulletin board for social events and pool closures. Remember that the pool closes early for home swim meets on Tuesday and Thursday nights between mid-June and mid-July. The swim meet schedule is enclosed. The pool opens at 1:00 p.m. after Saturday morning home swim meets.
Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. will remain adults only. This is a great time to relax, read the paper and swim a few laps. These Sunday mornings are becoming increasingly popular with our adult members. I encourage all adult members to take advantage of “quiet time” on Sunday mornings.
Club members may reserve the pavilion, tennis courts, and volleyball court during regular Club hours. The fee structure for pavilion usage, after hours pool parties and non-member guest fees is enclosed in this packet. Signup and scheduling the use of the pavilion must be done at the pool office. Please see the Club Manager and/or assistant managers for reservations and signup.
Included in this packet is information on Swim Lesson, Swim Team, and Tennis with details on dates for sign-ups as well as the Rules and Regulations of the BRC. Please be sure to review these rules with your family, especially the age requirements for children. Also included is the list of our scheduled social events. I encourage every member to participate in any or all of these fine programs.
For your convenience, our website, www.aboutbrookdale.org, contains all the latest news regarding the Brookdale Racquet Club. There is a feedback page on the website and I would encourage everyone to use this page and send any ideas, complaints or suggestions. The Board will respond to all feedback.
The Board of Directors looks forward to the upcoming season. We hope that the 2010 season is sunny, warm and fun one for everyone.
We invite you to join us at the Opening Brunch on Saturday May 29, 2010 from 10:00am to noon. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, problems, and/or suggestions.
