The Brookdale Buccaneer Parent Board is gearing up for an exciting 2010 swim season!  We are thrilled to announce the return of Brookdale’s very own Sharyl Damhorst as Head Coach.  Sharyl has a strong swimming and coaching background and returns to us with several ideas from both her perspectives as a swim coach and a swimmer’s parent.

We are also pleased to announce the return of age group coaches Ashley Fisher, Andy Bax, Megan Anderson, and Allison Szott and the promotion of Jean Slana from junior to age group coach.  Rounding out our talented coaching staff are junior coaches Grace Hopp and Taylor Frank.  Together their experience and swim expertise will be a tremendous asset to our team!

For those of you who are new to the area and Brookdale Racquet Club, the Brookdale Buccaneers are a member of the Naperville Park District Swim Conference.  The Conference consists of 23 teams with more than 3,000 participants.  The team practices according to age group and is grouped as follows:  6 and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18 year old.
 
Registration:  Registration night will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in the Hill Middle School Commons.  An informational meeting for parents of both new and returning swimmers will be held at 7:00 p.m.  Swimmer registration and parent job sign-up will be held after the informational meeting on a lottery basis.  Lottery numbers will be handed out starting at 6:45 p.m. through 7:30 p.m.  Numbers will be randomly drawn as each family arrives.  Registration will start at 7:45 p.m. with lottery ticket number 1 and follow sequentially.  Fees for the 2010 season will be the same as last year, $130/swimmer for Brookdale Racquet Club members plus a $20/family concessions fee.

Parent board members will be available to explain parent job responsibilities, what jobs are available within each committee, as well as answer any questions.  We will also cover expectations required of you and your swimmer.  Parents are not permitted to register children outside of their family or sign up for jobs for other families.  Apparel items will also be available to order.

If you are unable to attend, you may contact Sue Krey at 630-428-7593 or Jennifer Streder at 630-805-2366 (or via email at brookdalebucs@gmail.com) afterwards to sign up for jobs and to register.  Each family will be required to work 7 jobs during the season, comprising of 5 jobs and 2 general pool, plus invite and end of season meets their swimmer(s) is attending.  A $20 late fee will be charged to all families who register after June 1, 2010.

Swim Suits: We have been informed that Nike has discontinued the team suit from last year, so the Buccaneers will have a new suit this year.  The suit is the navy blue Speedo core basic suite for both boys and girls with the team name on the front and the team fish logo on the back and is available through the Keifer Swim Shop on North Aurora Avenue in the Riverbrook Commons Shopping Center, west of Dominick’s.  Once the base suit is purchased, please let the salesperson know you are with the Brookdale swim team and they will put the team name and logo on the suit in the store at no extra cost. [NOTE: The text and logo must be put on the suit BEFORE the suit gets wet.  Once wet, the transfer will not adhere to the suit and the text and logo cannot be put on the suit.]  A team suit and team cap are mandatory at all swim meets.  Since we are transitioning suits this year, swimmers will be allowed to wear last year’s suit or the new suit at meets for this year, but it must be one of the two.  Next year, only the new suits will be allowed.
